Home
Have you experienced a powerful feeling of loneliness due to the temporary or permanent absence of a loved one?
You may be missing a close friend, spouse or family member because they are away from home for a few days, or you may have lost a loved one to disease or old age. This song was inspired by a feeling of emptiness that swept over me due to Andrea's absence from our home. She was in Christchurch visiting family. For whatever reason, it suddenly dawned on me just how lost I was without my best friend, wife and business partner. The thought quickly transformed into music and lyrics and "Home" became part of our lives. |

Light My Fire
Recorded at Manakau Studio "Light My Fire" highlights the double mindedness felt by many men as they strive to stay true to their conscious and spiritual convictions, whilst feeling driven by their passion and desire.
We live in a world of fast food, fast cars, fast money, fast communications and fast relationships. There is real pain and discipline in keeping one's distance from someone that you are genuinely attracted to, yet it is fundamental to building trust, respect and long term love. This song poured out of my heart onto paper very quickly and actually surprised me a little when I first played it. |

Arise My Soul
The sounds of absolute silence often brought me to tears, the mere thought that I was doing absolutely nothing, the realisation that in truth nothing actually needed to be done, the recognition that the world was continuing to function perfectly well without my sixty to eighty hour week behind the desk, the acceptance of temporary defeat, the emerging dream, the clarity of purpose, the fight for survival.
The beautiful and totally secluded farm house had become a sanctuary during this time of pressure and process, the tall hedges providing a much needed break from the winds from the mountains and the world of commerce. My decision to spend my time on the farm totally without electronic noise was beginning to unfold the world at my feet and provide clarity to my emerging thoughts. Arise My Soul took shape late in the evening as I reflected on my life, gently strummed the guitar and watched the flames dancing in the log fire. |

Behind the scenes recording "Arise My Soul"
After a lifetime of pursuing a dream of writing and recording music, it all came together in Manuka Studios, Auckland, New Zealand.
Mike McCarthy took the time to calm any last minute nerves, carefully explained the process and managed to create a beautiful production from the original home based concept. Gray Bartlett added his wisdom and his magical guitar playing to complete the package and round off the project. Video was captured on the day using a Sony DCR-HC52 camera and mixed on an HP Pavilion Laptop using trakAxPC. Special thanks to Gray Bartlett for his friendship and guidance, Mike McCarthy for his input and creative talents and to our God for the song inspirations, his strength and his blessings. |
