Poverty Brings Ingenuity

Despite my desire to create an album, it seemed impossible based on my situation.

When my business collapsed, so did my finances and my marriage.

For the first time in my life I found myself without a job, a business, a partner, a bank or a line of credit.

A quick stock take revealed I had a four year old Dell laptop, a Martin guitar, a low cost AKG microphone and access to an old Yamaha DX7 keyboard built in the 1980's.

I could not read or write music, had never written music, could not play the key board, had no recording software, no percussion and no access to a studio.

Initially I would just pick up the guitar and record whatever God poured into me via an old portable dictaphone, then re play it and make adjustments where appropriate.

During a public speaking course I made a promise to sing each week to empathise with my students as they fought their fear.

Over time my confidence grew, a good friend gave me some recording software, I purchased a low cost percussion program, songs began to flow freely, albeit clumsily, Andrea came into my life and encouraged me, patiently listening, then joining in, friends applauded and the No8Whyre album is the result.

New songs continue to arrive and I do my best to capture them. I take little credit for the creation of this music and I am humbled to be chosen as a vehicle to bring them to the world.

A second album is underway, scheduled for release second quarter 2009.
